What is ICRID?

  • A state affiliate chapter of the national organization, Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
  • An organization that promotes the field of American Sign Language interpreting and serves professional interpreters, consumers, and persons interested in interpreting within the Deaf community
  • A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization 

Mission Statement

To advocate for best practices in interpreting by fostering relationships with the Deaf community and practitioners to provide support and development of equity, professionalism, and excellence through the profession of sign language interpreting throughout Indiana.

Vision Statement

By honoring its past and always looking to the future, ICRID envisions a state where:


  • The interpreting profession is formally recognized and is advanced by rigorous professional development, standards of conduct, and credentials that demonstrate a qualified level of linguistic and cultural competency


  • ICRID is a model in encouraging best practices in interpreting, demonstrating professionalism and inclusivity among all members and shareholders in a way that builds trust by informing and engaging members in ongoing efforts to achieve excellence in delivery of interpreting services for the Deaf and hearing communities


  • ICRID is a sustainable, credible organization that operates with professionalism, transparency, and ethical rigor reflecting its full commitment to the diverse communities served


  • Its members recognize and support the linguistic rights of all Deaf people as human rights, equal to those of users of spoken languages where Deaf people and their values are vital to and visible in every aspect by creating a strong relationship of mutual respect between the interpreting and Deaf communities


ICRID's office is located on the grounds of the Indiana School for the Deaf in Raney Hall.
